A reporter from PC Mag, while snooping around at VAIO press event and saw "Blu-Ray Video" yet on ejecting the disc found normal DVD-R written on in Sharpies.

Not only does this ask the question is Blu-Ray even existent? But why is Sony supporting pirating of movies?

Dumb Virus: "O RLY?" Virus Is On The Loose

The saddest attempt from a so called Virus writer who obviouly just learnt vB. This virus is just like a batch script that attempts to print to 40 different definied printer paths, so basically it only affects one organisation that it was written for. Wow some smart coder, its called looking through the Registry you tool.

Finally a good looking Myspace: First screenshots of AIM Pages, the "Myspace killer"

TechCrunch reveals a large screenshot from AIM Pages, AOL's upcoming social networking service. User pages will reside at aim.com/[username].

This is very smart, it looks good and has a great AJAX feel to it nothing like the MySpace pages. It shows your buddies and marks them if they on or offline with blogging, pictures, bookmarks, bio and liked stories. Plus it will pull your favourite audio from AOL Music.

I don't think it will catch on with the average teenager who likes to chuck any random HTML embed (and therefore make their content unqiue) onto the page but it could attract some users looking a space to express themselves simply and all in one place, with everything there.

I am hoping though they will offer a large range of customisations like CSS, HTML, images and maybe even some professional themes?

This is a revolution of social network with delicious, flickr, blogger and space technoloy chucked into one. I will join AOL just for this!

Valleywag: Journalism student claims MySpace success due to spammers

Looks like the "oh great" MySpace is not what is cracked up to be, nor was it created by "Tom" but by some people who were paid large amounts of cash to produce a product and make it sell. Funded by spammers and ex-cons: Tom and Chris were just poster boys for MySpace. Interesting read.

Sounds too good to be true, if they were being paid why did MySpace have so many exploits?

The wireless Xbox zombie controller hack

"Control your xbox controller mechanically with this cool mod." Wow, what a mess of cables. This mod allows you to control the Xbox controller from anything such as DS or PSP or a web browser. It uses a Linux box which sends/recieves signals via SSH from a cleverly scripted VB app.

Why you would want to this I am not sure, but a great use of Linux working in harmony.

Musical ends, proper school begins.

Well it is all over, sadly, that is the Musical. 5 great shows from Sunday to Thursday, with late nights. Lighting was great fun to operate and the cast and crew were all pretty fun. It was all pretty tiring also with many late nights rigging or packing up late.

Can't wait till next year, hopefully with Moving Heads! But for this year the UVs and Hazer were cool.

Hearing TWiT ep 49 with Robert Scoble made me somewhat amused at the fact that the Microsoft Staff shop sells XP Pro for just $60USD. Wow, now thats a drastic drop from the $300USD Leo Laporte bought for his Mac (with BootCamp). It shows how much the consumers are getting jacked for XP, buy a Dell and its cheap 99 upgrade from Home yet you could have the full for 33 dollars less. Microsoft is overvaluing their software and it being so old too. I even saw a copy of XP Pro put side by side with 2000 and they both cost the same, each at upgrade price. Why does MS continue with such a crazy price scheme for depreciated software, at least with age the price should drop.

I hope with Vista we won't see a 1k price tag, but its possible given the the features such as "security" and "free music". But this will just drive the piracy and cracking phenomenon. People don't care they are breaking the law still, they don't the MS roflcopter coming down and shooting down culprits.

Microsoft change the price for this edition, you will make profit from day 2 when every single OEM builder installs Vista Budget. Wait a month drop the price, and have a larger dominance because at this rate the home targeted Linux companies will pick up on the features that the users want; put in a sturdy mail client, browser, great audio player and a great office pack.

If XP Pro was 88USD I would buy a couple of copies for my Linux PCs as a second (only second-best) OS. Because an OS should never cost more than the drive it occupies.

Well yay, its the end of Term 1 for school. Bring on the Musical and Holidays + homework, but oh well we have to do these things.

I can't wait till the start of the Musical though, should be good fun with a whole bunch of hired lights/new dimmers/new board/ and my turn to operate. Plus just hanging around having fun.

I finished partial on our YAA site, complete with authentication, forum, group sites and user PM. Might have some screenshots up later.

Retro

Well I haven't been blogging that much so hers an update to keep this blog kicking.

RetroActive Uprising
Well I will back at lighting for Retro since they are back now at the Scarborough Civic Complex, should be a big event with a lot of floor space and some room for kicking back and relaxing. The setup should be interesting given the venue but the moment I think it is just Strobes and Shivas.
I will take some photos with my phone and chuck into flickr.

Linux Server back up
Well I downloaded Fedora Core 5 to check out this new release for my server, some new stuff including a BIND admin tool and a great Package Managment tool. I hooked this all up into my 633Mhz box with a 102GB Software RAID on 3 drives. It runs DNS,Apache,MySQL, and NFS all quite fast for home use.

Musical
The College Musical is coming up, I am quite excited. We have aquired some new stuff including some dimmers and DMX cables. It should be good fun and I will be taking some snaps of the setup.

See this ad? It is pur crap, not only does imply that AJAX coders either root their monitor or look at porn it also informs the user that monitors nowadays use one cable instead of the 2. This is disgraceful advertising and I wish that it would rather imply something about ASP coders. Eg: ASP coders are posers and even have the monitor one and instead spend their time rooting monitors.

Well all PHP coders are the gods of the earth.

30 extra free to air channels for Australia

Australia is set to receive 30 extra free to air channels in as early as next year. The 30 extra channels will be only available on Digital.

Senator Coonan said "The channels, to be run by two new operators, will not be allowed to look like existing free-to-air television, but instead will be restricted to niche and so-called snack TV. Niche covers special-interest shows such as religion and shopping, or programs for a particular ethnic audience. "Snack" content would include headlines, sport highlights, music, entertainment and information services such as weather and stock prices."

Yay, finished my maths exam! Was quite easy for anyone interested.

Well I got a email from "PayPal" today telling me about some unauthorized access. Well bullshit really, this email just told me to visit a site nothing in there was about unauthorized access only title said it. The rest was sayig I should check my account at the web address below.

Well suprise suprise it wasn't from PayPal but an uber 1337 h4cker who made the HTML email look like a URL for paypal but really go his home server. Very clever until you notice that the PayPal is always on SSL and has the domain of paypal.com and not http://rrcs-24-242-158-134.sw.biz.rr.com:82/cmd/index.php.

Now this isn't fooling me but it can fool a simple web user. Everytime you get something from you bank with a link make sure the site has a padlock simple at the bottom of your browser and that the Address bar has a proper domain of your bank.
